Community Service

Serving the Montclair community for over several decades, the Soup Kitchen opens its doors every Sunday at 12:00 noon to 2:30pm to serve over 25 delicious and healthy free meals to the community. This ministry, lead by the Community Services team, had the distinction of being the only Soup Kitchen available on Sunday in the Montclair area.

Pathfinders - Neville Pemberton

The Pathfinder Club is part of a world-wide co-ed scouting type organization sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Juniors and teens in grades 5-12 of any religion, or none at all, are welcomed and encouraged to join this ministry.

Adventurers -

Inspired by its “older brother”, the Pathfinder Club, the Adventurer Club is a “scouting type” program,  focused on education of children aged 6–9 years with additional sections for children ages 4 and 5.

Prayer Ministry - Rosalyn Ferguson

Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him.

Men’s ministry is an intentional attempt to bring men to God so they can make their way to God’s eternal kingdom. Men’s ministry concentrates on the male to better define and minister to his specific needs. By highlighting the roles of men, men’s ministry can touch on and improve the lives of men in ways that no other ministry can.

The over-arching objective of Family Ministries is to strengthen the family as a discipling center. The family was established by divine creation as the fundamental human institution. It is the primary setting in which values are learned and the capacity for close relationships with God and with other human beings is developed.

Education is not only about learning for the sake of intellectual growth. Adventists believe in developing physically, empathetically, socially and spiritually, too. Ideally, education should change and cultivate every aspect of our lives, bringing us that much closer to what God originally planned for us to have and to be.

Personal Ministries - Jasmin Van Kline

Personal Ministries (along with Sabbath School) was established as a major setting for religious education in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This evangelistic outreach offers bible studies and more for personal growth. It endeavors to inspire, motivate, equip, train and mobilize all members.

Sabbath School - Keino Andrews

Our Sabbath School is geared toward spiritual nurture, community and mission outreach, and fellowship enhancement. It’s important for us to have a vehicle where we can share our bible study, discuss and exchange our personal viewpoints & perspective, and ultimately strengthen our relationship with Christ as we grow together. Sabbath School endeavors to inspire, motivate, equip, train and mobilize all members.

Lower Division SS -

Hospitality - Johanne Blackhall

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2). The most valuable earthly possession a person can have is a warm, supportive friendship. In all cultures, friendships are developed through hospitality, and true hospitality is a spiritual ministry. Let’s all commit to becoming a more caring church, and our ministries will be blessed as we emulate Christ’s approach to soul-winning.

Greeting Committee - Daphne McDonald

Greeters play an important role in our church.  Within the first 15 minutes, many visitors decide if they will return to our church based on how they were welcomed at our front doors.

Social Committee - Robert Louis

God asks the church to be a community of people sharing a common purpose and fellowship, continually growing in faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God (Eph. 1:22).  As we connect with each in our social engagement as well as our beliefs, we become more unified.

Stewardship - Rosalyn Ferguson

We are God’s stewards, entrusted by Him with time and opportunities, abilities and possessions, and the blessings of the earth and its resources. We are responsible to Him for their proper use. We acknowledge God’s ownership by faithful service to Him and our fellow human beings, and by returning tithe and giving offerings for the proclamation of His gospel and the support and growth of His church.

Deacons - Neville Pemberton

Deacons assist pastors in the work of the church. They often assist with communion by providing water, towels, and basins for foot-washing and post cleanup.  Deacons  are also called on to help maintain church property, visit the sick, identify and help those who are needy in a community, open/close church facilities and care for the comfort and safety of those in attendance, prepare for and help with baptisms and aid in the collection and counting of money.

Treasurer - Cheryl Laforest

Finances are an integral part of the ministry of the laity. The treasurer is a person with integrity and business skills who has the important responsibility of being the chief steward of the local church finances.  The duties of the treasurer and team are as follows: (1) Count loose offering, tithes and offerings. (2) Receipt  all funds received. Validate offering envelope contents and post in church ledger. (3) Deposit church monies in bank. (4) Prepare offering detail report, financial statements and remittance report-along with remittance check (tithe/conf. funds)  to local conference.  (5) Prepare and distribute year-end receipts to members/donors. (6) Disburse funds and manage expense reporting. (7) Prepare monthly financial statements for church board.  Report periodically to business meetings.

Head Clerk - Claudia Germain

The clerk, like every other church officer, is a ministering servant of God.  Although the role varies somewhat from church to church, the clerk(s) duties are as follows: (1) Take minutes at church board/business meetings to include in church records. (2) Church membership maintenance.  Handle transfers, baptismal certificates/profession of faith reports. (3) Church record maintenance-minutes, officer list, church member list. (4) Maintain committee lists. (5) Church directory production/maintenance. (6) Church bulletin.

The main objective of the Communication Leader is to raise public awareness of the church—its members, its mission, and its message; work to get church activities and events noted in the media; and help to get the church’s views included in the news adequately and accurately.

Deaconess - Loutish Sellow

Deaconess assist pastors in the work of the church. They often will serve as greeters and ushers for the services held in the church. They also help the pastor and other event leaders maintain the smooth operation of church meetings. Deaconess assist with communion by preparing the bread and grape juice and arranging the emblems/covering on the table. They often assist during the ordinance of humility by providing water, towels, and basins for foot-washing. Deaconess are also called on to visit the sick, upkeep church property, identify and help those who are needy in a community and prepare for and help with baptisms.

Audio/Visual Engineering -

The Audio/Visual Ministry is responsible for setup, maintenance, coordination and use of the church’s a/v & lighting equipment used during services.  The ministry’s mission is to glorify God by ensuring that His Word and our praise/song  to Him is seen and/or captured clearly within our local church for broadcast and/or media distribution.

Safety Officer -

The primary objective for the Church Safety Officer is the prevention of accidents. The Safety Officer with the assistance of the safety committee can help the church achieve a position of taking corrective action consistently after each accident, thereby reducing major loss causes at the church.

Finance Committee - Lauraine Maccow

The Finance Committee handles issues related to budgeting church funds, addressing out of the ordinary expenditure requests and long range financial planning.

Ushers - Ethlyn Teague

The ministry of ushering is one of the most crucial because it is one of the most visible in the church and they are usually the first point of contact for visitors. Ushers greet worshippers, escort members and guests to their seats, distribute materials related to the service, receive certain offerings and direct individuals out of the service/meeting in an orderly fashion.
